Here we are in October already, with just under 11 weeks until Christmas!
I’d like to begin by extending my thanks to the committee for keeping everything running smoothly while I was away. During my break, we gathered valuable information on other rail trails, and I must say, the Boyne Burnett Inland Rail Trail truly stands out. A lot of the trails we rode lacked basic amenities like seating, toilets, or signage, so it was a real eye-opener to see just how well our trail has been developed in comparison.
I also want to congratulate the Monto community on their incredibly successful Centenary Celebration. From the updates I received throughout the weekend, it was clear that there was a sense of pride in their fantastic little township. Well done to everyone involved!
Now for some exciting news! After our last meeting, we received the great announcement that we’ve been awarded a grant from the Community Gambling Benefit Fund. Jill will share the details of the amount and how the funds will be used. A huge thank you to Jill and everyone who contributed to ensuring the successful submission of the grant application. Your efforts have paid off, and this funding will go a long way in furthering developing the rail trail.
Mick also has some important updates, particularly regarding the Burnett River Bridges
section of the trail and the Grovesner to Abercorn section, which he will cover in his written report.
In more good news, the grant money from the Gladstone Regional Council has come through as well, thanks again Jill! A big thanks to Graeme for ordering the counters (great work, Graeme!). We now need to schedule a working bee to get them installed, and I propose the 9th of November, which is the Saturday after our next meeting which will be held at the Eidsvold Bowls Club. These counters will be installed in the Gladstone Regional Council
section of the trail, focusing initially on the Dawes Range Tunell section, Barrimoon to
Golembil. Additionally, we’ll need to put the mileage pegs in place in that same section.
As always, many hands make light work, so everyone is welcome to join in and lend a hand!
Thank you all for your continued hard work and dedication to the Boyne Burnett Inland Rail Trail. Let’s keep up the great momentum!
Cheers
Desley
