Greetings! Everyone, with the last month of Winter with us. August has been again very mild, little or no frost and recording only 7mm of rain.
With 124 Volunteer hours recorded for the month.
Rainfall of 14 mm spread over a 3-month period has required watering of trees at sidings as this 90 day minimal rainfall event is very challenging for the environment and trail surface, big thanks to our volunteers.
Frost guards on trees at sidings were remove mid-month, being not necessary this Winter.
Plant maintenance is ongoing, also a compressor rebuild project is being undertaken. One of the highlights of the month was the purchase of a new Husqvarna brush cutter, muchly appreciated!!!!!
A crossing of three sets of lines at the Mundubbera Goods shed will now allow for the safer crossing for the trail. Materials in the form of cracker dust donated by Boodles Concrete, BJ’s Canvas plant hire for placement, Robbo Signs signage is truly appreciated. Our volunteers placed new signage for the crossing. Thank you to all involved!!!!!
A visit by our international member Hans from Belgium was most welcome. Hans enjoyed participation with trail maintenance and the base placement for our camping fee cylinder soon to be installed.
A koala and birding project was discussed with enthusiasm for our trail.
Hans is a business member of BBIRT, with a landscaping enterprise back home in Belgium. Was great to have you with us Hans!!!
With the help of members Janette and Rod we now have the necessary contacts to assist with the bird and terrestrial mammal monitoring project for our trail, more news next month!
Bird of the month would have to be young juvenile Magpie, singing melodiously throughout the day!
